They give us necessary information about our core affective experience in the here and now, our individual reactions, needs, meanings, and action tendencies. Secondary emotions are the feelings about the feelings, a reactive layer atop the more vulnerable primary emotions; they are likely to be defensive and can cover or lead away from the primary adaptive emotions.
